SAFETY WHILE STRANDED

Have this emergency kit in your vehicle before you are stranded, especially before long road trips or places you are unfamiliar with:

 

* Water (2-3) gallons

* Food (nuts or energy bars)

* Wool blanket

* Flashlight (crank is best)

* Umbrella

* Gas can with fuel 

* Matches and / or lighter

* Pen, pencil and paper

* Fire Extinguisher

* First Aid kit

* Towels

* Extra shoes

* Charges cell phone battery

 

 

MOVE YOUR CAR OFF THE ROAD

 

Most of the time youll be able to maneuver to the side of the highway or street. As soon as you know there's a problem, you should turn on your hazard lights, especially if you cant move the car right away. Don't get out of the vehicle in the middle of traffic!!

 

BE WARY OF STRANGERS

 

After you have called for help, it's a safe idea to keep your hazard lights on, lock your doors and even open the hood so that other drivers will know you are having trouble. But be careful with those who stop to help, especially if you're traveling alone, simply tell them that help is on the way. For your safety you should never leave your car, you may get lost. Keep your cell phone on you at all times, and if its late at night, don't hesitate to call the police. A patrol officer can find you and wait with you until the tow truck comes.

DON'T TRY AND FIX IT

 

You might be familiar with car engines, but the chances are slim that youll be able to repair the problem without any tools or parts. If your tire blows and you know how to put the spare on, be careful. If you have not changed a tire before, you should not attempt it. Call for our

KNOW YOUR LOCATION

 

Many people break down on the highway during a road trip or can't pinpoint their exact location for whatever reason. That's why it's important to always keep in mind what highway or road you're on and which exits you can be found quickly. If your near a mile marker or phone box, it's easier for authorities to locate you in an emergency.
